Nice. Thanks for the advice. Home gardeners should remember, you can turn some of your own yard waste into mulch.

I bought one used and it is terrific on the high grass and weeds. I even used it to cut down bushes and saplings. I highly recommend this machine for tough brush.

Spring is an important time for landscapes - plants and trees are preparing to come alive and many beds need to be replenished and nourished. Spring clean ups include deadheading flowers, pruning trees and shrubs, fertilizing, and applying fresh mulch.

Before you reseed you need to take a metal rake to the affected area and soften it up. Spend some time ensuring that you have close to an inch of soft dirt to work with.

Great tips about the often forgotten need for aeration! It is well known that weeds thrive in compacted soils. It must be stressed to customers in new subdivision homes that they don't have ideal soil conditions as the top soil has been stripped away during the construction process, leaving them susceptible to extreme soil compaction. Core aerate their lawn to decrease soil compaction and it will allow air, water and fertilizer to penetrate the roots.

Thanks for the tip Anthony, it's greatly appreciated. We wrote a grass cutting height article a couple months ago. I've linked it above if you want to jump over and take a look.

Great article!
The other thing that we mention to our customers is to sharpen your mower blades at the start of the season. A clean cut will encourage growth and prevent unnecessary damage to your grass. Also, as cited in the linked blog, it can not be stressed enough to raise your mower blades so your grass is cut at least three inches in length. This will help retain moisture and protect your grass roots in the summer.
